Ecological Footprint

Firstly, you may ask, what even is an ecological footprint??? Your ecological footprint is the area of land needed to produce and maintain your lifestyle, as well as enough space to absorb the waste you produce.

The average ecological footprint for an Australian is 7.7ha (massive), compared to the average in the whole world which is only 2.2ha.

Try out the Bigfoot challenge at Powerhouse Museum to discover your own ecological footprint. If yours is over 7ha, I suggest you try to cut back!

  1. My footprint seems to be above average. Does it count that we grow many of our own vegetables, and eat the meat that is produced on our farm??
